We need to change Domestic Violence Laws. Please help before more woman are murdered.
Our laws surrounding Domestic Violence are horrendous, embarrassing and a complete kick in the guts for anyone that has finally found the strength and courage to speak up and try to seek protection for themselves through our justice system.
The fear that comes with speaking up is a very scary and difficult choice to make, and more often than not puts the victim in even more danger.
The Family Violence Protection Unit along with the organisations that assist after a report has been made do a wonderful job in offering support and options, but after an Intervention Order has been served, this is where our system falls apart. A piece of paper does not stop the abuse. The police encourage you to report breaches of the IVO so that it will strengthen your case when it finally goes to court and when it does, the abusers are let off with a fine at best.
Our laws need to change and quickly.
How many more woman and men need to die at the hands of the one person that’s supposed to love and protect them?
We want change so that after the 1st breach of an IVO, a $50,000 is served. A second breach, they need to wear a tracking device and a 3rd, jail! 1 in 4 women suffer this crime, enough is enough!
